MONTANA MEDICAID DEBACLE:

AN OPPORTUNITY TO ADVOCATE!

From Mara Silvers at Montana Free Press:

With more than 132,000 Montanans removed from Medicaid, health coverage advocates call for an ‘all hands on deck’ approach. The campaign, titled “Get Covered Again,” is spearheaded by Cover Montana, a federally supported arm of the Montana Primary Care Association that helps Montanans find and access health insurance. The group’s director, Olivia Riutta, told attendees Thursday that 1 in 10 Montanans have lost coverage since the state’s mass-eligibility review began last April, a statistic she described as a “pretty staggering coverage loss.”

National Volunteer Month is an annual celebration dedicated to honoring volunteering efforts around the world — recognizing people who selflessly devote their time, skills, and energy to support various causes. From aiding the less fortunate to preserving the environment, volunteers play an indispensable role in shaping a brighter future for all.

For the past thirty years, NAMI Missoula has depended on volunteers—including members of our Board of Directors—to achieve its mission. Our volunteers enable us to support, educate, and advocate for individuals and families in our community who are challenged by mental illness. More than that, it is our volunteers who, through their work with NAMI, “Touch hearts, Heal minds, Connect people, and Change lives.”

So, from NAMI Missoula to all our volunteers, past and present: Thank You!!

NAMI MONTANA 2024 SPRING TRAINING!

NAMI’s support groups (“Connection” and “Family Support”) and education programs (“Peer to Peer” and “Family to Family”) depend on the availability of trained facilitators. Every year, NAMI Montana provides the required training, which takes place in Helena. Lodging and meals are provided by NAMI Montana; travel expenses are reimbursed. Trainees must be members of NAMI (or they can join at the training) and they must have previously attended the group or completed the program for which they will be trained.

The 2024 NAMI Montana training weekends will be: April 27th– 28th (for “Family to Family” and “Peer to Peer”) and May 18-19 (for “Connection” and “Family Support”). Qualified members of NAMI Missoula are invited to contact us for more information about, and application forms for, the upcoming NAMI Montana training sessions.
